One of the features of smart home systems is that they are accessible from anywhere. In a second home this can have huge benefits for the client.

This house on the Yorkshire coast has a multiroom audio / video system, a central Kaleidescape Movie and CD server (and it's a great holiday DVD collection), Rako lighting control and intelligent heating control. Overall system control is provided by AMX and we've interfaced with the different sub-systems to allow remote access and management. The introduction of the new iPhone interface for the Web Manager controlling the heating system puts heating control in our clients' pockets.

In practical terms, our clients can monitor the house for security purposes. They can tell the house they're coming (via the web or SMS) and when they get there it's ready for them. Temperatures are right, the hot water's on, even the towel rails are at the right level. When our client leaves they put the house into its "leaving" lifestyle and the whole house settles back for another week of inactivity. Simple, practical, brilliant.
