Since the launch of the iPhone and subsequently the iPad we have been regularly asked by clients “Can I control my AMX home automation system on my iPhone/iPad”. Well now the answer is yes! While there have been apps around for a long time that can control individual elements of home automation systems (lighting, heating, and media server) they all have the inconvenience of having to swap between apps to control different parts of the system.
TPControl have now become an AMX Authorised Partner which has enabled them to create an app which allows us to treat an iPhone or iPad in exactly the same way as an AMX panel. Start the app and you can control all the functionality of your property all in one place, lights, audio, video and the heating, just as you would with an AMX touch panel. As the touch panel design is totally unique to your project (as you would expect with any AMX touch panel) your iPad or iPhone control is completely customised to your project. Close the TPControl app and continue to use your iPad to surf the internet or check your e-mail!
Remotescape Inc. provides an application for the Apple iPhone or iPod touch to browse your music library, search for an artist or album, and control playback of any Kaleidescape movie or music zone.
It's a complete wireless remote control combining the elegance and simplicity of the iPhone touch based interface with the rich music and movie data of the Kaleidescape system. The Remotescape app allows you to browse your music collection without the TV having to be on, adding real flexibility to tthe Kaleidescape system as a multiroom audio system.
Remotescape can be used alongside our other favoured systems for controlling Kaleidescape systems; AMX, RTI and Control4
Sensible Heat has implemented a neat iPhone interface for its Web Manager heating control.
The web interface tailored for the display of the iPhone or iPod touch gives access to all the key features of the web manager including the ability to quickly set lifestyles which allow you to quickly call up pre-programmed states for each zone in your heating system.
Speakercraft has been iPod aware for some time. The iPod docking station has made it possible to access and control an iPod's content via MODE Keypads since 2007.
Now it's possible to control a Speakercraft MZC66 from an iPhone or iPod Touch over WiFi.
Speakercraft have developed a custom web server to allow control of the system via the Safari browser built into the iPod Touch and iPhone. This offers some advantages over a native application written for the iPhone or iPod Touch but there are some watchouts to be aware of. we've had one on test since CEDIA and we've posted our initial thoughts here.
