Lutron Homeworks is a powerful control system capable of managing the largest lighting scheme and integrating with home automation controls to produce a complete home control system. Lutron Homeworks is highly programmable - every button on every keypad can be programmed for scene control, whole house control activities like "Whole House Off" or even audio video or blinds control. Lutron seeTouch keypads can be customised with backlit buttons engraved with their function. At its most simple, a Lutron keypad controls either individual circuits of light or groups of lights which can be programmed as scenes. In a smaller system you might see this as a simple control system for a kitchen / dining area as an example. There might be 10-15 circuits of light across that area- some providing focused task lighting in the cooking area, others providing soft background light in the dining area. Selecting a scene such as dining or cooking sets all the circuits of light to pre-defined light levels to give you the ideal lighting setup for the mood.
Taking this example a step further, what if you wanted to set the patio lighting to trigger on certain scenes but only at certain times. By programming individual buttons on the keypads we can make the light levels and circuits react in different ways at different times of the day. This has many application for security lighting, external circuits etc. Buttons can even have multiple functions. A good example of this is how we program bedside keypads; a single press on the off button can turn off the room, double pressing the off button can turn the whole house into a night time setting, turning off all internal circuits, maybe setting some external lighting. The flexibility of the Lutron programming means we can tailor the behaviour of your lighting to suit just about any requirement. Homeworks does more than respond to keypad presses. Movement sensors, light levels, UV levels or commands from another control system all can activate Lutron events. So in the Home Cinema, pressing the "watch film" on the AMX controller will turn on the Projector, set the AV amp to the Kaleidescape input and slowly dim the lights. At a more day to day level, high UV levels picked up by a sensor will automatically close the Lutron Sivoia blinds to protect valuable furniture. Vacation and security features take advantage of Lutron's central programming to simulate occupancy and to trigger lighting activity in the event of an alarm being triggered. This might involve bringing up all lights in a designated area to 100% and then overriding local control of those circuits until the owner enters a passcode. The processors sit at the heart of any Homeworks system. The P5 Series 4 and Series 8 processors control lighting circuits, curtains and blinds and can be programmed to control third party devices like audio video equipment. Importantly Homeworks processors can communicate over IP and so sit on the house network. This allows quick and robust communication with AMX and also allows us to monitor and manage a Lutron system over a secure VPN connection from anywhere in the world.
European Homeworks systems are essentially hard wired - while there are a number of wireless products in the range these are mostly for the US market. Homeworks isn't a product for the retro fit market, all circuits and keypads are wired back to central dimming racks and processors. It's possible - and often desirable - to site dimming racks in different locations on larger projects. Downloads Lutron - Brochures and Datasheets
